Essential Fuctions:
- Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in Mercy Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct, fostering a climate where all customers are treated in a manner consistent with Mercy Medical Center's Mission and Values.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
- Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
- Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment to foster a positive public image for Mercy Medical Center.
- Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.)
- Practice within the legal scope of a registered professional nurse as outlined in the Iowa Board of Nursing Practice Act (2000) and retain accountability for one’s own nursing practice.
- Utilize research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of patient care.
- Continuously seek out opportunities to improve the quality of patient care delivery through innovative and creative problem solving.
- Support and participate in shared leadership and interdisciplinary decision-making.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct and practice consistent with the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001).
- Contribute to the positive image of nursing and enhance the magnetic culture of the organization by modeling professional behavior both in the organization and in the community.
- Demonstrate characteristics of practice (caring, collaboration, & clinical decision making) consistent with the RN’s established level of knowledge and experience on the Novice to Expert continuum (Benner, 1996) – see attached description of practice level.
- Serve as a teacher, mentor, and coach to patients, students, new nurses, peers, other colleagues, and staff.
- Embrace change and lifelong learning, taking personal accountability to seek out experiences that reflect current practice in order to maintain skills and competence in clinical practice and role performance.
- Seek feedback concerning one’s own practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the ANA Standards of Practice (2004)
- Adhere to the ANA Standards of Professional Performance (2004)
- Complete and maintain competencies to provide care within the assigned unit:
- Core competencies for all RNs
- Basic and advanced competencies for the specified department
- Core competencies for Patient Care Coordinators
- Conflict mediation
- Cost containment
- Delegation
- Health system guidance
- Incident reporting
- Laboratory data interpretation
- Physician support
- Staff development
- Staff supervision
- Teamwork support
Schedule:
- .9 FTE (36 hours per week)
- Day shift
- 6 am - 6:30 pm
- No weekends
Education, Licensure, Certification, and Experience Required:
- Registered Nurse with active license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa.
- Applicant must have a BSN degree in nursing.
- Must continuously seek opportunities to enhance professional nursing practice.
- Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization is recommended and previous leadership experience including charge experience, community leadership, group facilitation, committee or project involvement or an active role in the change process is necessary.
- Interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations.
- Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
