Overview

We are looking for a PRN Patient Care Tech to join our Surgery department. This is an as needed position. Hours vary and will mainly be Monday-Friday with short shifts in the afternoon/early evening. There is potential for earlier shifts as needed to help. This is a great position for nursing or other healthcare related study students.

Under the supervision of an RN provides direct patient care.  Provides technical services and support for patients undergoing surgical procedures and their families. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved patient care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Assists with simple procedures such as shave prep of surgical site, transfer of patients, positioning of patients and surgical skin preps.
  • Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
  • Verifies patient identification on name band and chart using 2 patient identifiers (name and birthdate) for any patient care related work.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.
  • Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to others views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.

Departmental Support

  • Performs routine cleaning on equipment.
  • Assists in department cleaning and storing of supplies and linen.
  • Assists with OR room turnover including opening sterile supplies and instruments.
  • Performs tasks as delegated by OR team members.
  • Provides back-up coverage for anesthesia technician.

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

 

 

75 Hour Advanced CNA Course

or

Student nurses are only required to complete the 75 hour CNA course and completion of 1 clinical rotation.

Experience:

Previous healthcare experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Multicultural sensitivity.

Microsoft Office
basic computer skills.

Customer/patient focused.

 

Other:

 

 

 

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
