Job Overview

As the Payroll Manager, you are responsible for managing and administering the company’s payroll function. This includes compensating employees in an accurate and timely manner; maintaining necessary financial/accounting records; complying with all applicable federal and state laws; and directing the work of the Payroll Team of the Accounting Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Oversee the company’s payroll programs to ensure employees are paid accurately and in a timely manner, taxes are withheld and paid as required, and W-2 forms are issued as dictated.

  • Update payroll files and general ledger

  • Resolve payroll issues (e.g. late payments)

  • Direct the collection, computing, and documentation of payroll data.

  • Financial recordkeeping including: annual and quarterly reconcilements, annual returns, verification of journal entries, income statements, participating in required financial audits.

  • Coach, train, and supervise the Payroll team.

  • Act as resource for the Accounting, Human Resources, and Executive teams on payroll matters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hire, train, and supervise employees with payroll responsibilities.  Provide constructive coaching and performance evaluations on assigned employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes in a multistate environment.

  • Working knowledge of Workday Payroll

  • Basic understanding of Accounting concepts

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proven process improvement and change management skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or extensive practical experience.

  • 5 or more years of payroll experience in a similar size or larger multistate organization. Supervisory experience.
