Your Responsibilities

A Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is a person who has lived experience with mental health directly, or indirectly through a loved one. The Peer Support Specialists primary responsibility is to encourage members to take control of their own health and wellness and to promote the concept of whole health. The PSS is responsible for providing support services and serving as an advocate to those enrolled in the program. A Peer Support Specialist will role model hope, personal responsibility, active engagement in education, self-advocacy and connection to community supports. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support members in utilizing goal setting processes to further their recovery
  • Create and facilitate groups and activities to support recovery
  • Support members in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
  • Utilize and teach problem solving techniques
  • Teach and role model the value of every individuals recovery experience
  • Develops/maintains a welcoming, trauma informed atmosphere
  • Complete all necessary paperwork for insurance and billing in a timely manner

What You Need

  • Personal experience with recovery
  • If living in recovery, at least 1 year in successful recovery
  • Ability to practice healthy self-care
  • Knowledge of, and experience in working with adults with brain health disorders
  • Completion of Peer Support Training Academy as soon as possible after hire date
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position
