Overview
The Physical Therapy Technician (Tech) works with the therapists and front office staff in the daily operations of the department, including ordering patient care/office supplies as approved, and communicating with patients, families, nurses and therapists. The Tech performs modalities as requested and supervised by the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapy Assistant. Assists with scheduling patients, maintaining good patient flow, transporting and transferring patients, cleaning/disinfecting equipment, keeping the treatment area stocked and clean, and answering phones as needed.
Responsibilities
Physical therapy treatment interventions
- Assists the therapists or therapist assistants in patient care, performing modalities as requested and supervised; transporting patients to/from clinic treatment areas.
- Maintains ongoing communication with the therapists to ensure appropriate treatment interventions.
- Communicates with patients, families, and staff as appropriate.
Department Infection Prevention
- Cleans and disinfects therapy equipment according to clinic schedule.
- Maintains proper cleanliness and stocking of all treatment areas.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Clerical Support
- Schedules patients and maintains patient flow.
- Answers phone utilizing proper etiquette.
- Orders and stocks patient care office supplies as approved.
