POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides care for children ranging in age from six weeks to two years. Programs are designed around the developmental needs of the children.

What you will do:
- Actively knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, including the Guiding Behaviors and Caring Model Principles, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
- Demonstrates specific customer focused behaviors relating to attitude, privacy/confidentiality, communication skills, and professional behavior.
- Understands and attempts to meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of the infant, toddler, assesses needs and responds appropriately.
- Makes parents and teachers aware as to when the child is developmentally ready to move to the next classroom.
- Exhibits a warm, loving, and respectful caring attitude toward all children disciplining in accordance with the Center’s guide.
- Anticipates the needs of co-workers and assists them in the care of their children.
- Supervises nursery children and provides for their physical safety at all times. In doing so, identifies and corrects potential risk situations and hazards and completes incident reports.
- Creates an environment which is interesting and challenging to the children.
- Minimizes distress by helping infant/toddlers to interact pleasurably with one another; giving encouragement and help and having reasonable expectations for behavior. Shows respect for each child as an individual.
- Demonstrates willingness to discuss and work out problems with peers and parents as they arise.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and provides the flexibility necessary to carry out departmental goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates knowledge of positive reinforcement and redirection as behavior modification techniques.
- Seeks the majority of continuing education requirements in areas that will be most beneficial to their department and the individual.
- Strives for individual performance excellence within the job in order to help the department achieve its goals.
- Complete daily food reports and be knowledgeable with food program standards.
- Prepares a creative well-balanced curriculum that includes a wide range of developmentally appropriate experiences for the children.
- Completes and follows up on children's daily reports.
- Communicates all problems or concerns to parents.
- Holds yearly conferences with all Nursery parents.
- Directs Childcare Assistants on children's needs in the event of their absence.
- Prepare for new child to enter the classroom. Labeling supplies, giving tour and information as needed.
- Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
What we are looking for:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must earn 6 hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Education per year.
- Must meet all mandatory education and training requirements within specified timeframes as required by organizational/regulatory standards.
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
- One to two years previous work experience with children and/or schooling in Early Childhood Education is highly desirable.
- Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and competency with Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the departments. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for Mercy Medical Center.
- Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.)
- Must have well developed communication skills; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Must like and be patient with children.
- Must be able to accompany the children on outside field trips.
- Must have fundamental knowledge of the growth and development of the child, with particular emphasis on infants and toddlers.
- Must be flexible.
- Must demonstrate good hygiene techniques in accordance with Center guidelines.
- Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on the changing needs of the department and/or the organization.
