Job Overview
Product Design Engineer
Advance Pump designs and fabricates the highest quality equipment for the liquid waste industry. The Engineering department plays a critical role in the productivity, success and growth of our company. The Product Design Engineer will be responsible for engineering and designing product features, producing Bills of Materials for customized builds, generating shop instruction, and supporting shop operations. This is a highly interactive, hands-on position requiring strong people skills and an on-site presence. This position has manifested itself as our organization reallocates tasks and roles in anticipation of company growth.
Essential Functions:
- Complete layout of product and features to fit on a truck, tanker trailer or skid mount unit.
- Analyze powertrain and hydraulic systems.
- Prepare new & update existing electrical schematics for integration of remote systems, lighting, PTO’s, throttle controls, etc.
- Review and implement OEM truck body builder install and computer programming procedures.
- Prepare detailed Bill of Materials (including Routings/Tasks), Assemblies & Instructions for individual projects.
- Perform project pre-production build meetings with the production team.
- Check-in with the production team to support efficient production and communication.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills.
- Ability to work with multiple production departments.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Strong proficiency in the use of design software, preferably Inventor, and with spreadsheets & word processing software.
- Experience in creating Bills of Manufacturing (Parts and Processes) in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Ability to facilitate, support, implement and quickly adapt to change & make common sense decisions.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience of hydraulics, electrical, automotive, and mechanical equipment
- Excellent math and organizational skills
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills necessary.
- Comfortable with direct customer contact.
- Ability to work in a small office setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and move items weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and scaffolds.
