Job Overview
The respiratory care practitioner provides service to the patients, as requested by the patient and, when required, as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and the policies of the organization. Initiates and applies prescribed preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative procedures and techniques and maintains communication regarding customer service with the physician and supervisory employees.
Completes, maintains, and submits accurate and relevant plan of service notes regarding the patient’s condition and service provided.
Provides patient instruction in regards to proper use of equipment and maintenance, as applicable. Uses supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently.
Observes the patient for changes in condition, discusses changes with the patient or family/caregiver and reports changes, as necessary, to the primary care physician.
Facilitates the patient’s efforts toward self-sufficiency and independence.
Teaches the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques, as appropriate. Provides instructions as ordered by the physician and recognizes and utilizes opportunities for safety education with patients and families/caregivers.
Completes delivery and pickup paperwork promptly and accurately, returning paperwork to the appropriate billing staff
Assists the patient’s family/caregiver and other home medical equipment employees in providing continuity of care
Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development, and maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes.
Participates in on-call rotation schedule utilized to provide 24 hour 7 day a -week coverage
for emergency services
Accepts other duties and activities as assigned
Assists in regulatory compliance efforts:
a. Follows FDA regulations
b. Follows OSHA safety standards
c. Completes applicable DOT vehicle inspection logs
d. Obeys local fire code provisions

Seeks and obtains sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the HME setting where assigned.
Provides professional respiratory care by utilizing all elements of applicable clinical process
Administers diagnostic monitoring as prescribed by the physician.
Assesses and evaluates the patient’s status by:

- Reviewing and implementing the plan of service;
- Regularly re-evaluating patient needs;
- Revising the plan of service, as necessary.

- Valid driver’s license in state of residence with a clean driving record
Is currently licensed as a respiratory care practitioner through the appropriate board in accordance with state law and regulation.
Has at least one (1) year general hospital experience, with current HME experience.
Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.
Possesses and maintains good physical stamina and mental health; complies with organization policies concerning health screening and health requirements.
Must be a licensed driver with a clean driving record
Has satisfactory references from previous (or current) employers, and/or professional peers.
Has excellent observation, good judgment, and good oral and written communication skills.
Is self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision; has good organizational skills.
Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation.

Is a graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy
- Degree in respiratory therapy or related science is preferred.
- Must be licensed in primary state of home office and may be required to obtain license in neighboring states.
- Home respiratory care experience is preferred
- Maintain CEUs as required by state law
