Overview
We are looking for a PRN, Registered Nurse, to work in our Wendt Center. This is a PRN position so there are no set guaranteed hours. You will be utilized to help cover for vacations, sick days, etc... The Wendt Center is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
As a member of the Radiation Oncology interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Assists patients with completing intake information. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Assists physician during patients’ initial consultation and follow up visits. Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
- Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
- Regularly confers with radiation therapy staff regarding any and all complications/side effects of radiation therapy treatments and has patients see physician when deemed necessary.
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care. Educates patients and family members regarding potential side effects of radiation therapy.
- Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in Radiation Oncology.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
- Answers any and all questions called in to clinic regarding current and/or past patients.
Development and Patient Education
- Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
- Assesses and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patients’ and their families age-specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

· Associates Degree in Nursing |
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing |
Experience:

· 1-3 years of nursing experience
|
· Previous Oncology experience |
License(s)/Certification(s):

· Current, unexpired RN license with the Iowa Board of Nursing |

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
|
· Must be able to successfully complete basic computer course through in-hospital training; develops and maintains necessary computer skills including Word and Excel. · Must successfully complete in-hospital orientation and competencies. · Must possess a broad and varied knowledge base that is continually enhanced and updated through self-directed study and participation in educational opportunities, with experience/emphasis in risk assessment and genetic counseling and testing of those individuals at an increased risk of a genetic predisposition. · Excellent clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to plan and evaluate. · Ability to direct others and to exercise judgment in problem-solving scenarios. · Ability to lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary teams. · Effective verbal and written communication skills. |
