Overview
Contribute professional nursing knowledge and skills in the management of bed placement on appropriate units related to diagnosis and level of care working collaboratively with each unit and make sure there is appropriate staffing to support the safety and care of the patient. They will collaborate with physicians for patients directly admitted to the hospital and get the appropriate information to make this transition successful. Will complete ancillary work to track and pass information on to the appropriate areas, help maintain a physician call list, assist with getting help where needed on the units, including specialty assistance such as lines, wound vacs or work in cooperation to find assistance as needed.

Responsibilities
Patient Placement and Coordination
- Bed placement – gather information from the presenting area that needs a patient placed. Determine if we can provide the appropriate care and what is the best area for placement in a timely manner. Determine staffing needs are appropriate prior to accepting patients. Communication and collaboration between the incoming provider to the accepting provider and ability to operate phone system to operate a 3-way call as needed. Document the information and pass this information onto unit care givers and other areas that may be involved in the care of the patient. Make sure to complete computer information for transfer so information on the patient is available.
Staffing and Resource Management
- Staffing – Review census, and staffing levels of the units. Manage staffing in OneStaff. Look at accuracy of assignment sheets, staffing grids and census to determine if it is appropriate. Organize and assist with getting appropriate staffing adapting to the changing needs of the hospital.
Data Collection and Operational Support
- Data collection for admissions, staffing, transfers, outside hospitals in case of transfer, doctors on call, hospitalists on duty, and all other ancillary duties needing to be completed to appropriate determine bed placement and staffing. Assist with breaks as needed on units and Telesitter staff, or in a critical situation.

Education:

Graduate of accredited nursing program (Must obtain BSN within 5 years of hire) |
Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree in Nursing |
Experience:
|
|
One (1) year of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency. |
License(s)/Certification(s):
|
· Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. · Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) within three (3) months from date of hire. |
