 Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

BARD Materials is seeking a detail-oriented, forward-thinking individual to join our team as a Safety & Environmental Technician in Dubuque, Iowa. This position is in our Safety & Environmental department and will report directly to our S&E Director.

The Job (Overview): 
The S&E Technician will be responsible for fulfilling the tactical scope of duties needed to support the broader initiatives of the S&E Department and BARD, overall. This primarily involves acting as the on-site representative of the S&E team through the conduct of regular, standardized site inspections of BARD properties. Additionally, the S&E Technician will be expected to support other activities that support site compliance with BARD objectives and regulatory compliance, as assigned.

Responsibilities:  
Conduct regular, standardized S&E inspections of all BARD properties.  
Champion new and ongoing S&E initiatives by engaging front-line employees for their input. 
Conduct sample collection to support compliance with environmental regulations.   
As directed, conduct driver observations and/or ride-along evaluations and report findings.  
Support new driver training and/or remedial driver training.  
Perform minor repairs, improvements, or modifications to correct issues found during site inspections.  
As directed, act as BARD’s S&E Department point-of-contact (POC) on-site during larger, more complex concrete pours.  
Provide on-site support to S&E Director and S&E Specialist in the event that BARD’s Crisis Management Team is activated.  
Debrief rest of S&E team on relevant tactical-level issues during weekly team meetings.  
Conduct chemical inventories at each BARD site to support the GHS Hazardous Communication program.  
Other duties as assigned.  

 

Education, Experience, & Skills: 
Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). 
High school diploma required.  
Industry experience in ready-mixed concrete manufacturing, mining, trucking, construction, or any combination thereof.  
Prior completion of relevant safety training (OSHA 10 Hour, MSHA New Miner, etc) preferred but not required.  
Previous experience working with regulators or as a regulator preferred but not required.  

 

Highly Desired Experience & Skills:  
Possession of a valid CDL. 
Welding/Fabrication Experience. 
Experience operating equipment such as ready-mix trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, skid loaders, forklifts, etc.  
Facilities maintenance experience. 
Electrical troubleshooting experience.
