Summary/Objective 

The Saw Operator will set up and operate CNC and manual saws to cut metal materials to the required length or shape. Install saw blades, set stop gauges for the length of the cut, operate material feed, and set saw speeds for the type of materials.

Essential Functions

  • Complete tasks and conduct behaviors consistent with promoting a standard of excellence. 
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report any unsafe situations to management or human resources.  
  • In-person, on-site, predictable attendance and punctuality in alignment with the position’s scheduled hours. 
  • Set up and operate metal cutting saws to cut bar stock to specified measurements.
  • Receive, store and route bar stock and tubing in the proper lengths, dimensions, and material types, both physically and systematically.
  • Operate forklift for loading and unloading material truck deliveries as needed. Intake and store safely and in an organized manner, the material with the use of a forklift truck.
  • Responsible for the correct identification of raw material. Mark ends of bar stock and tubing by color and number codes to maintain the proper identity of the variety of materials that inventoried.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and stock of material on the shop floor and on storage racking.
  • Utilizes material handling equipment as required.
  • Interacts with ERP system and computers as required (minimal).
  • Follows all departmental work procedures and company policies, including all company safety policies.
  • Participates in maintaining the company’s quality system and adheres to standard operating procedures as applicable.
  • Participates in employee training programs and communication meetings.
  • Performs daily operator maintenance on saw equipment. Ensures the work area and equipment are properly maintained to provide a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Physical Requirements 

  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. 
  • Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions.  
  • Use of hands and arms to touch, lift, reach, grip, and grasp.  
  • Talking and hearing frequently.  
  • Frequently exposed to production floor elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors, and heat  

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up-to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) required
  • 1-2 years general labor or saw operator experience preferred
