Job Overview

The maintenance, repair, setup, and continuous improvement of all seamer and filler machinery and systems, in a safe efficient manner. Ensure all seamers are producing quality in spec seams. Be able to perform complete major overhauls and rebuilds of Angelus Seamers and Elmar Fillers. Conduct audits of equipment to make sure machines are within operating specifications and minimize downtime due to worn parts or seam defects. Be able to troubleshoot seam defects and adjust to eliminate seam defects. Assist other can production mechanics with other issues and day to day maintenance of equipment in the area when needed. 

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine work assignments in the following disciplines, angelus seamer set up and adjustment, filler setup and adjustment. Be familiar with the following tools and measuring devices. Vertical end play indicator, feeler gauges, inside micrometer, planner gauge, force cell gauge, countersink gauge, hand micrometer. Use the following instruments to set up seamers and fillers to a specification sheet. 

Proactively performs troubleshooting techniques in a logical manner on all equipment including pneumatic, hydraulic and lubrication systems. Prepares work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Responsible for the Preventative Maintenance (PM) of all seamer equipment. Be able to do manual teardowns and measure all parts of the double seam. Knowledge of computer systems and excel to be able to keep track of tooling hours, wear of tooling, and ensure PM's are in place to replace parts/tooling when needed. 

Actively supports the PdM function where applicable. Maintains all maintenance workshop equipment. Be able to read equipment manuals and blueprints on equipment, ability to find/source parts from vendors for use in all repairs, W/O and PM's. Prepares basic dimensioned sketches. Reads and understands technical bulletins, manuals, instructions and blueprints. Communicate with and train production and maintenance staff on mechanical hazards and techniques, changeovers, and knowledge of equipment operations. Also work with and communicate with corporate can seaming managers, and take direction and suggestions. 

Responsible for training new technicians as needed.  

Participates as a member of the TeamParticipates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Attends appropriate team meetings.  As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Face Mask, Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net, Safety glasses

Technical Experience: Technical College or Vocational training an asset.

Training Experience: Angelus seamer or Elmar filler training preferred.
