As the Senior Accounting Reconciliation Specialist, you will take the lead in making sense of complex accounts, streamlining processes, and keeping things squeaky clean behind the scenes. What You'll Do:
- Lead and perform complex reconciliations across multiple financial systems and accounts.
- Perform and review advanced-level reconciliations for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, intercompany transactions, and other high-volume or high-risk accounts to support month end close and reporting.
- Responsible for troubleshooting, identifying and resolving high-risk discrepancies and escalate issues as needed in a timely manner.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Accounts Payable, Branches and Deposit Ops) to research and resolve reconciliation issues.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of accounting reconciliation and operational procedures to align with best practices and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to streamline workflows.
- Train and support junior and/or new staff in all essential functions of the reconciliation team.
- Support and adapt to onboarding of new systems, enhancements to existing systems, and organizational changes into the reconciliation processes to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Assist in ensuring the preparation of accurate complete and timely accounting records and related reports
- Assist in ensuring the credit union suffers minimal losses due to failure to comply with operational procedures, regulations, and applicable laws
- Assist with examiners and external auditors to answer questions and provide information during examinations
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 4-6 plus years of experience in financial reconciliation or accounting operations
- Financial Institution experience preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Applies critical thought processing and decision-making skills, interpersonal skills and pays attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with strong written and oral presentation skills, for both internal and external credit union communications and relations.
- Resourceful and well organized with the ability to prioritize work assignments, efficiently and accurately handle large volumes of details and multi-task effectively
- Above average proficiency in spreadsheets, ability to learn in-house application software, and have competence to navigate various accounting programs and systems
