Your impact on the team:

For the role of the Senior Metadata Specialist, we are looking for a versatile education professional who can provide expertise with learning objectives, competencies, and/or skills, and educational content and practices in higher education and/or professional medical education. The role will collaborate with curriculum, product, and technical teams on educational metadata design and management and requires strong communication and collaboration skills as well as technical and metadata understanding. The successful candidate will join an emerging metadata team helping to drive innovative learning experiences with careful measurement, rich analytics, and AI-accelerated tools.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States and requires up to 15% travel for the year.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate and communicate with subject area experts and product managers to develop and manage skill/competency ontologies and controlled vocabularies in higher education and/or professional medical education.
  • Coordinate with metadata team members and technical staff to identify and expand capabilities and tools supporting metadata management and usage.
  • Collaborate with learning and data scientists to identify and pursue opportunities for metadata inference and quality improvement.
  • Help develop and maintain documentation on metadata and its uses for product and design teams.
  • Monitor external developments in metadata standards for higher education or medical education to share with the metadata team.
  • Use data tools from spreadsheets to database queries to programming languages to identify complex metadata requirements, explore internal and external metadata use cases, and suggest potential enhancements.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Undergraduate degree in education, learning sciences, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in education with at least 2 years of direct experience working with medical education competencies, higher education learning objectives, and/or other related educational metadata, particularly in assessment contexts
  • Strong communication skills, especially in translating technical details to non-specialist audiences.
  • Self-motivated and well-organized; able to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure.
  • Experience with e-book and other educational content designs for medical and higher education.
  • Growth mindset and open to change, with a positive attitude and interest in improving over time.
  • Experience working with educational metadata and platforms used in multiple educational contexts, including higher education, medical education, and/or engineering education. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and educational content. (preferred)
  • Experience with personalization tools in education. (preferred)
  • Awareness of generative AI tools and their potential for educational content and interactions. (preferred)
  • Experience working with JIRA, Confluence, Teams, and Slack. (preferred)

The pay range for this position is between $124,000 - $145,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
