Purpose of the Position
Manage multiple departments on a shift to ensure that product is processed, packaged and stored in a manner that meets customer, FDA/USDA, and company requirements. Ensures goals are achieved while demonstrating a commitment to employee safety, teamwork and communication.
Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.
Manage multiple departments on a shift. Direct activities of Superintendents to ensure product is produced to meet customer and complex production requirements. Responsible for scheduling and time off for direct reports. Decision making in selecting applicants, interviews, and progressive discipline.
Provides backup support for the Director, Operations. Assumes responsibilities while leadership is off site or unavailable. Participate and help manage the scheduling of production and work activities to meet established goals and expectations.
Emphasizes a safe work environment. Promotes a safe work environment as well as meets safety requirements complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons, OSHA, or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.
Create a Continuous Improvement Culture. Develops a continuous improvement culture for their direct reports as well as their responsibilities being performed in order to improve in processes as well as continually find ways to drive out waste. Accomplishes quality performance which meets or exceeds all line, department, facility, company, and USDA/FDA guidelines or grading process for a total quality program and customer relations.
Communicate at all levels in order to meet production expectations. Monitors quality, safety, scheduling, personnel and mechanical status of the plant. Collaborate with the functional areas of the operations such as Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Finance, Shipping, etc. Communicate effectively at all levels to provide appropriate directives and to resolve employee problems/conflicts.
Manages employees. Directs and supervises employees’ work activities and monitors work performance. Collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview and hire candidates. Administers disciplinary actions and recommends performance improvement actions in collaboration with the HR Manager. Monitors work performance and recommends compensation decisions based on guidelines. Follows Simmons values to develop and maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees. Promotes a cooperative and harmonious environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
Travel: Travels to and from multiple facilities, work-sites, or customer locations, possibly requiring overnight stays.
Technical Experience: 3 years of experience in food or poultry processing with supervision in multiple plant functional areas
Industry Experience: Food processing organizations.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science, Agriculture or related field, or 4 years related work experience
