We’re looking for a special person to assume the newly created role of Social Media Strategist. The ideal candidate understands how to develop and lead strategy, has team leadership experience, and has worked in the social space for 5+ years helping brands look for ways to connect the dots and deliver consistency across all digital and social channels. You are someone who understands platform value and nuances, is always on the lookout for updates, has an ear-to-the-ground on emerging technology and social opportunities, and approaches problems through a creative lens.
You will lead the Social Media practice for the Center of Excellence and set best practices on how to implement individual business units' social strategy, develop and stand-up new internal policy, and create new processes to improve general operations. You will also advise on the day-to-day posting, optimization, and community management where you would be guiding best practices across audience engagement and growth strategies in conjunction with the social media leads on each business.

- You can have an excellent sense of judgment for whether the correct response to a comment or DM is a laugh, an answer from a pre-written response or an escalation of a request.
- You’re nimble and resourceful. You can easily transition from being in the clouds (concepting disruptive ideas) to the dirt (rolling up your sleeves and executing).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Create Social Media Guidelines and Policy for McGraw Hill
- Set social media strategy for individual Channels and oversee governance
- Set strategy and editorial calendars for shared channels across businesses
- Establish Ed Cals for overall McGraw Hill and guide individual media managers to create the same to ensure a cohesive overall voice from the brand
- Regularly analyze the state of the social media efforts across multiple channels through analytical tools.
- Work closely with the in-house teams on content creation or studio/design needs.
- Apply substantial amounts of independent critical thinking. You’ll need to form the analyses, uncover trends, find content opportunities, use general tactics or insight and direction for creative optimization that can include design and/or copy.
- Ensure content is published to all social accounts on time and execute future publishing schedules as needed.
- Manage team process and workflow, ensuring projects are properly kicked off, resourced and tracking from strategy development through production.
- Identify opportunities to improve team capabilities through creative solutions and development of processes
- Work cross-functionally, balancing the needs of stakeholders across multiple business functions
- Act as a direct liaison between social leads and agency partners to ensure all parties are aware of project requirements, resources and deadlines, as well as handle administrative tasks
- Create new social reporting framework that enables internal distribution of insights and analytics to improve overall organizational intelligence
- Establish new performance benchmarks and get internal buy-in on the larger role of social in the organization
WHAT YOU’VE GOT
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years working in social media
- An understanding of the broader marketing & communications mix, and the role of socials
- Experience implementing social, digital and/or integrated campaigns on behalf of national brands
- Fluency in content strategy, comms planning, social analytics, editorial or publishing background
- Social Media Agency experience
- Strong writing/AP style & storytelling skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be a connective force amongst various disciplinary groups and with the client
- Existing design skills are a plus
- Ability to lead and influence with or without direct reports
- Strong perspective on creative culture and practice
- Proven track record of influencing others to drive key business KPIs
- Interacts well with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
- High level of communication skills and the ability to foster great working relationship

The pay range for this position is between $100,000 - $120,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
