Description
Overall Responsibilities:
- Assign and oversee sports and feature stories; plan time schedules of sports reporters for the Dyersville Commercial, Manchester Press and Cascade Pioneer
- Write sports and feature stories, taking photos to accompany
- Create an interesting sports section each week
- Make sure that all sports content gets entered into the content management system
- Serve as a public relations representative
Specific Responsibilities:
- Writes accurate, fair, timely and interesting sports and feature stories
- Uploads sports stories, video and photos to the web.
- Gives appropriate coverage of area sports to our various high schools, based on news value and reader interest.Â
- Maintains a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends
- Edits sports material for value, accuracy, timeliness and fairness
- Meets deadlines
- Develops news sources and business contacts. Represents the paper in service areas.
- Takes fresh, interesting feature and sports photos
- Monitors ongoing news and sports issues
- Assists in the creation of, and adheres to, WCI policies and journalistic ethics
- Maintains a "customer-comes-first" commitment to internal and external customer service.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or needed
Qualifications

Skills:Â Â English language; spelling; communication; goal setting; computer operation; time management, photography and videography; ability to perform efficiently and accurately on deadline. Reporting, interviewing, writing, typing, planning and organizing; valid drivers license. Ability to upload news, photos and video to the web.
Knowledge: Bachelor¹s degree or equivalent; preferably two years of newspaper or related media/communications experience; familiarity with overall newspaper operations, current events, sports and history.
