Looking for a summer job? Are you available between May 17-September 5? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others? Join our team as a Summer Instructor!

Summer Instructors (Direct Support Professionals) provide support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Earn $14/hr., with an additional $4/hr. weekend differential for hours worked on Saturday and Sunday. Summer Instructors are eligible for a Summer Retention Bonus - the more you work, the greater your bonus:

Work 250 hours, earn a $250 bonus
Work 350 hours, earn a $400 bonus
Work 450 hours, earn a $550 bonus
Work 550 hours, earn an $800 bonus!

That's a total possible Summer Retention Bonus of up to $2000 based on total hours worked!

Learn to support individuals with intellectual disabilities to help them live as independently as possible. Responsibilities may include assisting with activities of daily living, cleaning, meals, and participating in group outings, and vary based on shift. Paid training is provided.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/G.E.D.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Basic computer ability
  • Ability to lift 20lbs and occasionally lift up to 50lbs

Who We Are

Area Residential Care is a private, non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization, created in 1968 by a group of parents and other interested parties. Its mission is to empower people with intellectual disabilities to achieve their highest quality of life. From its inception, Area Residential Care’s purpose has been to provide community-based services for persons with intellectual disabilities. The organization has grown over the past 40 years to serve an average of 250-275 people with disabilities annually; providing residential, vocational, and day services in Dubuque and Dyersville communities.

Through a variety of community-based residential and vocational programs, Area Residential Care helps people with disabilities become active, participating members of the community. Giving people with disabilities choices about where and how they live, work and socialize with their non-disabled peers is the essence of Area Residential Care’s purpose.
