The Supplier Quality Manager is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and leading internal supplier quality department within A.Y. McDonald Industries and is the face of the supplier quality program to suppliers. This person plays a critical role in ensuring that the supply chain delivers high-quality materials and components, driving manufacturing efficiency and customer satisfaction. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for quality and continuous improvement. This is an on-site position in Dubuque, IA.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality management processes aligned across A.Y. McDonald Industries and ensure internal standard process are aligned.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a supplier audit and assessment program across A.Y. McDonald industries that will evaluate suppliers’ processes, capabilities, and compliance with quality standards at both onboarding and continued production.
- Establish KPI’s for supplier quality program.
- Develop, implement, and maintain tools related to root cause analysis, 8D, fishbone diagrams, 5-why, corrective action, and lean.
- Ensure timely resolution and communication of supplier quality concerns to executive leaders.
- Develop, implement, and maintain company and supplier specific continuous improvement initiates. Work with suppliers to identify and execute opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and quality enhancements.
- Drive suppliers in adopting lean manufacturing practices and other quality improvement methodologies.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics (e.g., PPM, on-time delivery, and customer complaints) and drive improvements.
- Identify integration needs for supplier quality department and engineering for product development projects.
- Develop, implement, and maintain PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) process and first article inspections to validate supplier processes and product quality.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to ensure supplier readiness for production.
- Identify potential risks in the supply chain and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure suppliers comply with company, industry, and regulatory quality standards.
- Set up a process for maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation related to supplier audits, certifications, and performance evaluations.
- Act as the main point of contact for all supplier-related escalations.
- Develop a cadence for regular updates on supplier performance and key initiatives to subsidiary presidents and executive leaders.
- Collaborate with quality, procurement, engineering, and production teams to address quality concerns and support strategic sourcing initiatives.
Required Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in engineering, business, or related field is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience as a supplier quality engineer or supplier quality manager.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry working with global suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ect).
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and APQP.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Certifications such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to A.Y. McDonald Industries locations and supplier locations globally.
