Overview

Assists in leading the day-to-day operations of the department. Schedules, supports and develops staff members. Collaborates with physicians/offices and other health care workers, to provide medical imaging and patient care while maintaining professional standards. Responsibilities

Patient Support

  • Coordinates rooms/schedules/staffing to complement patient care needs. Assists with staffing needs and work schedules. Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
  • Directs, coordinates and delegates patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborating with the director, effectively resolves complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises.
  • Evaluates sonograms for technical quality.
  • Understands correct machine settings to produce accurate appearing images.
  • Performs equipment calibrations and adjustments.
  • Selects technical factors and imaging modes. Informs supervisor or calls for service in absence of supervisor when needed.

Department Support

  • Helps with staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs. Assists in the hiring and orientation program of newly-hired staff.
  • Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment. Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital. Instructs and helps lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary, to problem solve.
  • Responsible to maintain current professional expertise. Promotes personal and professional growth among coworkers. Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost-effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital's budgetary guidelines. Assists in identifying and explaining key variances. Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work. Identifies and implements cost-saving ideas.
  • Assists with evaluating and guiding coworkers with appropriate input of job performance. Provides immediate feedback (positive and negative) about job performance to personnel on team. Provides input to director on performance evaluations.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

HS diploma or equivalent

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience:

Clinically proficient as a sonographer in performing diagnostic procedures, including vascular ultrasound, on patients of all ages.

License(s)/Certification(s):

· Certified and holds current registration with the ARDMS or the ARRT in Sonography.

· Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Organizational skills

· Verbal, interpersonal/communication skills - comprehend written directions, follow verbal instructions

· Customer relations

· Analytical

· Must be able to read and write English.
