Directly supervises while assisting Ultrasound staff in the application of Ultrasonography services. Demonstrates proficiency in performing all Ultrasound related exams, and other related patient care services. Is responsible for department specific staff orientation, ongoing educational training and competencies.

Responsibilities
Job Performance
- Develops and updates policy and procedure manual
- Assists manager in the selection of new employees
- Assists manager with the annual evaluation of employees
- Assists in the decision-making process of new technology/equipment
- Performs staff orientation, education, and competency evaluation
- Develops monthly staffing schedule
- Assists manager with the inspection processes
- Acts as subject matter expert in ultrasound
- Demonstrates competency in all ultrasound procedures
- Responsible for regular rotation of on-call responsibilities This includes the use of their own cell phone device to complete essential work functions and enhance job performance.
- Responsible for assisting the manager in approval of absences (PTO Approval system) and corrections to Kronos timeclock system for the staff in your area. Managers responsible for the final approval of Kronos.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining staff schedule. Require schedules a minimum of 4 weeks prior to scheduled shifts. Lead understands and is accountable to assuring staffing needs meet patient care demands.
Patient Care
- Prepares patient for ultrasound exam and ensures consent forms are signed for invasive procedures
- Documents properly in the patient medical record
- Obtains proper history and interprets physician order correctly
- Correctly orders, tracks, and charges exams in a timely manner
- Correlates care with Radiologist when needed.
- Demonstrates competence in age-appropriate care
Quality Improvement
- Works closely with the Radiology Manager to ensure a quality program.
- Ensures equipment is in proper working order and all quality control testing (if applicable) is complete prior to procedure.
- Enters unusual occurrence report into system as needed
- Participates in hospital wide performance improvement.
- Responsible for being the area expert in ensuring the best outcomes and highest quality exams from your Team. Regular spot checking of your teams’ exams, review of QAs from Radiologists, enforcing of regulatory governance, training at Modality meetings and follow-up with team members based on feedback from providers and management. Responsible for review and documentation of Level 1 and Level 2 Corrective Actions surrounding exam quality performance expectations. Coordination with area manager to awareness of corrective action process and supportive of action plans.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of ultrasonography or graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology with extensive training and experience in Ultrasound. |
