Job Overview
Divine Word College is accepting applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) with a start date of August 2025.
The VPAA is the chief academic officer and manages all academic programs of the College, which include three undergraduate study programs leading to BA and AA degrees (Theology and Mission, Philosophy, and Intercultural Studies) and an English as a Second Language (ESL) certificate program. The VPAA provides direct supervision of department chairs, the registrar, and the library director. Further, the VPAA reports directly to the president and works closely with other vice presidents in preparing students for their future missionary service and consecrated religious life.
Divine Word College (DWC) is a Roman Catholic seminary founded by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), the largest Catholic missionary congregation. As a Church mission-driven institution, DWC focuses on training missionaries for today, especially those discerning a vocation to the priesthood and religiously consecrated life. DWC partners with many international congregations to offer vocation and formation programs, including English language education and preparation for ministry. The small student body (approximately 120) hails from more than 20 nations. Located in Epworth, IA, DWC and its members are leaders in the local community, practicing prophetic dialogue leading to committed social action. Minimum requirements:
● PhD in a discipline complementary to DWC's mission and academic programs
● At least five (5) years of administrative experience including direct supervision of subordinates, budget and asset management, and program assessment
● At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in higher education
Additionally Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience working in a multicultural and international environment
● Demonstrated success as a scholar within one's respective discipline
● Knowledge of The Program for Priestly Formation
● Experience leading curriculum change and program development
● Experience in institutional assessment
● Evidence of mentoring undergraduate students towards advanced degrees
● Evidence of mentoring colleagues in pursuing academic success
