Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s or associate degree from an accredited school of nursing
- One to two years’ experience in an ambulatory specialty care clinic, specifically adult oncology is not required; however, preferred or hospital setting preferred
- Must have current and valid Registered Nurse License from the State of Wisconsin
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Accurate knowledge of endoscopic/surgical instruments and techniques and knowledge of endoscopic equipment such as the cystoscope and colposcope
- Knowledge of adult oncology disease processes and treatment plans preferred.
- Basic proficiency in word processing and Excel programs; software proficiency covering a variety of health care / clinical record applications.
Job Summary
Administers nursing care to designated ambulatory specialty patients in a clinic setting in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and supervision of a licensed physician, physician's assistant, and/or nurse practitioner. Performs a variety of direct patient care duties in compliance with physicians' orders and appropriate protocol. Performs a variety of indirect patient care duties under the supervision of the Clinic Manager or Director. Reviews and prepares clinical records prior to clinic dates to ensure referring physicians' notes and corresponding reports are available for the reference by the specialist.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Performs patient screening assessment and provides nursing care in the clinic or procedure room as appropriate including interviewing the patient to obtain their medical history and chief complaint, performing medication reconciliation, and obtaining patients' vitals.
- Prepares the patient for exams and/or procedures, provides patient education related to planned procedures, and ensures necessary consents are obtained.
- Assists physician / provider with examination, treatment and designated procedures performed in the Clinic, including but not limited to cystoscopies, allergy testing, EMG's, catheter changes, etc.
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of clinic equipment as appropriate.
- Verifies that patient care areas of procedural/outpatient clinic have been cleaned and stocked and equipment returned to appropriate areas following completion of clinics/procedures.
- Provides direct patient care including transferring patients between bed, chairs, and transfer devices.
- Performs all required paperwork and communicate with patient care staff, patient, and families via computer and communication devices.
- Prepares and sets up or removes all ancillary equipment including retrieving and storing supplies as indicated.
- Provides patient care in urgent/emergent situations.
- Performs CPR on patients during code before arrival of additional team members.
- Encourages and educates clinical staff regarding adherence to the standards of rooming the patients and expectations set forth by the department.
- Work in collaboration with other UWMF Regional Services staff in various locations, which may include reimbursed travel.
- Adheres to Southwest Health’s value-based behavior standards.
- Understands and adheres to Southwest Health compliance and HIPAA standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
- Occasional planned regional travel for meetings/trainings or to work in other clinics.
