Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Minimum of one to two years’ food preparation experience, preferably in a healthcare setting preferred
- Experience with standard kitchen equipment including steamers, steam table, robot coupe, ovens, dish machines, slicers, etc. required
- Food prep experience including main dishes, side dishes, salads, desserts, and special function foods required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Record and Food Purveyor Software preferred
- Certification with the State of Wisconsin for food protection policies and Food Manager Certification preferred
- If not certified, must be willing to complete upon hire
Work Hours
We are seeking a full-time Cook (average 36 hours per week) to work a rotating schedule: 5 days one week and 4 days the next. This position includes an every third weekend and holiday rotation. Weekday shifts are from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Weekend shifts vary between 5:00 AM and 7:30 PM.
Job Summary
The cook prepares food for the residents, patients, guests and employees. Oversees other food service workers and prepares appropriate food (therapeutic and texture modified) for each patient or resident. Responsible to open the department and/or close the department in the absence of the Lead Cook and follows appropriate sanitation and safety procedures.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Completes the food pre-preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning involved in meal preparations for the patients, cafeteria and/or vending program patrons, and special function guests.
- Maintains sanitary and safe food practices during the food preparation and service functions.
- Provides the appropriate food (therapeutic and texture modified) for each patient or resident.
- Assist with taking orders, communicating basic information regarding the food service program to new residents/patients, and serving patients in the patient room.
- Engages in self-development to improve knowledge and enhance professional competence and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
- Attends meetings and in-services training as directed, or as needed, and may include attendance at continuing education meetings.
- Supervises the food service workers in the absence of the Lead Cook.
- Provides input regarding the food service workers’ performance reviews as requested by the Director of Food and Nutrition.
- Maintains clean work environment including cleaning and sanitizing work areas, sweeping and mopping floors, and throwing out garbage.
- Assists with training new employees within the department.
- Adheres to Southwest Health’s value-based behavior standards.

- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
