Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program
- Active Wisconsin Pharmacy Intern License issued by the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board prior to start date
- Ability to perform pharmacy intern duties in compliance with Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 450 and PEB administrative rules
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy intern, preferred
- Familiarity with inpatient pharmacy workflows, automated dispensing cabinets, and electronic health records, preferred
- Interest in hospital, inpatient, or rural healthcare pharmacy practice, preferred
Work Hours
We are seeking a 40 hours/week Inpatient Pharmacy Intern to work Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am - 5:00pm, from June 1- August 30.
Job Summary
The Inpatient Pharmacy Intern supports the pharmacy department at Southwest Health, a Critical Access Hospital, by assisting licensed pharmacists in the preparation, distribution, and monitoring of medications for hospitalized patients. Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, the intern contributes to safe, efficient, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care while gaining hands-on experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

- Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and distribution for inpatient and emergency department patients
- Participate in medication reconciliation processes and review of patient medication histories, as appropriate
- Restock automated dispensing cabinets and manage unit-dose medication distribution
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, stocking, and checking medications for expiration
- Support clinical pharmacy activities such as medication reviews, dosing calculations, and documentation, as permitted by training and licensure
- Respond to medication-related questions from nursing and other healthcare staff, under pharmacist supervision
- Maintain accurate records and comply with hospital, state, and federal regulations
- Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and departmental projects
- Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations in a Critical Access Hospital setting
