Requirements
- Requires a bachelors or associates degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Fulfillment of licensure of the State of Wisconsin for an RN, and be legally eligible to practice in the state of Wisconsin.
- OB Experience preferred.
Work Hours
We are seeking a part-time (24 hours/week) RN to work in nights (5:00pm- 5:30am) in our OB Department. This position includes an every third weekend and holiday rotation.
Job Summary
Provides nursing care and service in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, current laws and regulations and under the direction of medical staff. Follows the individualized plan of care for each patient in order to achieve the highest practicable level of physical and mental well-being for each patient in compliance with current nursing standards of care and practice and medical standards of care, federal, state regulations, and Southwest Health policy and procedure. Utilizes the nursing process in the execution of general nursing procedures in the maintenance of health, prevention of illness or care of the ill through the performance of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.
- Perform Pre-Delivery Interview Program and educate patients regarding their obstetric and newborn care.
- Completes initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual plan of care for patients assigned to the unit.
- Demonstrates organizational skills and effective use of time.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Ability to care for patients in multiple aspects of care which include but not limited to the following situations:
- Assesses labor progression.
- Manages induction of labor and cervical ripening.
- Deals competently with medical emergencies including but not limited to; emergency cesarean section, prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitious delivery, uterine rupture, amnioinfusion, abruptio placenta and placenta previa.
- Performs fetal heart monitoring.
- Manages pregnancy-related concerns such as hypertension and diabetes.
- Initiates intravenous therapy and use of infusion pumps.
- Participates in medication administration to include scheduled, high risk medications, and emergency administration.
- Assists with vacuum extractor and/or forceps deliveries.
- Participates in cesarean sections.
- Cares for postpartum mom/newborn couplet to include breastfeeding assistance.
- Assesses condition of the newborn and recognizes situations of heightened surveillance or situations that require a higher level of care (transfer).
- Performs neonatal resuscitation within scope of practice.
- Promotes patient/client education and involves the patient and significant others in implementation of health goals.
- Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
- Actively participates in developing own professional goals. Completes all required education, audits, and in-services in allotted time frame.
