SCOPE OF SERVICE/CUSTOMER: 

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the inpatient pharmacy technician trainee assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients ranging in age from premature newborns to geriatrics. The inpatient pharmacy technician trainee is involved in the provision of educational and employee services to patients, guests, hospital and medical staff of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.  

 

Customers: Pharmacy staff and management, medical and hospital staff and hospital guests. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Makes regular deliveries of medications to nursing units. 

Processes unit based Pyxis refill reports and promptly delivers / resupplies medications to the nursing units. 

Answers and processes incoming phone calls to the department. 

Assists with department inventory procedures and processes. 

Processes patient medication charges and credits accurately into pharmacy and / or hospital information system. 

Demonstrates activity to impact change within your department and with other departments. 

Promotes and establishes effective relationships within the department, with other departments, physicians, and with hospital guest and clients. 

Takes an active role in enhancing abilities to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development. 

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising pharmacist, Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor and/or Director of Pharmacy. 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Mobility, dexterity, fine motor skills and ability to use hands in repetitive motion tasks, such as grasping and fine manipulating is required.

As a Dietary Office Coordinator at MercyOne, you will be under the general direction of the Clinical Nutrition Coordinator, responsible for providing leadership and daily direction for the Diet Office services to meet Departmental, State and Joint Commission expectations of serving nutritious, high quality and safe food items to patients of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.  Responsibilities include oversight of daily diet office functions, including general staffing supervision/direction, nutritional screening, menu/nourishment processing, workflow, training, scheduling, ordering/inventory management of tube feeding and nutrition supplemental needs and the use of the dietary software system (CBORD).  Actively evaluates the accuracy of processing patient menus to ensure compliance with diet orders.  Liaison between the local Diet Office and System Office Trinity Hospitality Services Content Team to assist with the implementation and resolution management of the computerized software system (CBORD) to ensure accurate patient meal tickets and patient safety. Assist in the development of diet office operating policies and procedures, service and operational standards.

  • Utilize the Patient Electronic Medical Record to identify level of nutrition care screening needed following guidelines established by the Nutrition Screening Policy.
  • Use the dietary software programs to assure patient safety and meals are served in compliance with current diet order.  Identify and resolve software and/or daily operation deficiencies that have a direct impact on patient safety/care and/or diet office efficiency.
  • Interprets information and reports generated from dietary software program for verification of accuracy of patient diet, allergies and nourishment order.
  • Input, produce and deliver nourishments, late trays and tube feeding orders.  Calculates amount of tube feeding product needed to meet physician’s order.  Accurately calculate patient calorie and carbohydrate intake.
  • Responsible for the oversite of collecting “Same Day Menu” selections from patients in compliance with diet order utilizing the dietary software program.
  • Responsible for generating accurate patient meal tickets, patient listings and requested patient reports using the dietary software program.
  • Responsible for maintaining outpatient schedules and appointments for Clinical Dietitian staff.
  • Manages and participates in the cleaning and maintenance of the nourishment kitchen and the tube feeding storeroom.
  • Assigns duties and directs activities for diet office and 4-7 Dietary Assistant staff.  Participates and assist in personnel activities including hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, payroll, team talks and disciplinary actions.

The section head is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating an assigned section of the laboratory.  The section head is responsible for ensuring that daily workload is monitored and completed, abnormal results are reviewed and acted upon.  Under the direction of the Lab Director and Core Lab Supervisor, this person is responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring new tests, quality control, proficiency testing, competency assessment.  The section head oversees staff and workflow in the absence of management personnel. Assists with the Quality Management Program, patient test management, and ancillary department testing.  Ages served range from newborn to geriatric. 

 

  • Oversees the instruction and orientation of students and employees. 

  • Maintains the assigned section to conform to appropriate regulatory agency standards. 

  • Ensures functionality of laboratory instruments and availability of supplies and reagents.   

  • Can perform job descriptions of lab assistant, MLT, MT, duties of the laboratory director and supervisor, and any other duty as assigned.    

  • Communicates with physicians, ancillary caregivers, and the laboratory leadership team.  

  • Assists with the preparation of the annual capital equipment budget and identifies department needs.   

  • Ensures proper procedures are followed. 

  • Ensures that procedural performance and behavior of lab personnel, under assigned section, does not result in physical or psychological discomfort to the patient, others associated with patients, or staff members.  

  • Ensures that accurate test results are obtained promptly so proper treatments can be implemented. 

  • Keeps the section in a state of readiness to meet the accrediting standards for unannounced inspection. 

  • Assigns and monitors workflow within assigned section of the lab. 

  • Provides input for annual performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as requested. 

  • Maintains a current procedure manual that complies with the laboratory document control system.  Oversees the procedure review process for the assigned section. 

  • Responsible for the proper maintenance, use, and care of laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies for section under their direction. 

  • Demonstrates competence with the PeopleSoft system and any applicable websites and uses them to maintain adequate supplies and reagents for their area of responsibility. 

  • Maintains unit specific competencies and participates in review of competencies.  Organizes and executes skills days/events for supervisor or director approved tests. 

  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient care and utilize evidence-based resources.   

  • Maintains knowledge of equipment and continuously learns new technology and is able to trouble shoot equipment, report malfunctioning equipment and ensure its repair and return to service. 

  • Monitors external survey submissions and participates in investigations of errors and failures. 

  • Monitors reagent and quality control inventory and performs lot to lot comparisons and overlaps. 

  • Performs or oversees any applicable audits. 

  • Oversees staff and resolves issues as needed during scheduled shifts in the absence of management personnel.

YOUR SCHEDULE AS A FOOD SERVICE TEAM MEMBER

We offer this customer service position flexible schedules, including mid-day shifts, 2nd shifts, nights, and weekends. Perfect for fitting work around school, family, or other activities.

YOUR DAY

As a Food Service Team Member, you’ll kick off your day by serving customers with a smile and handling cash transactions. You’ll whip up our famous Dairy Queen ice cream treats, make various food items, and keep everything clean and organized. Working with your teammates, you’ll help keep things running smoothly and make sure every customer leaves happy.

REQUIREMENTS

Prior food experience is preferred but not required.
