Senior Controls Specialist – Days

Purpose of the Position

Create and maintain plant automation and control systems, staying current with new technology and safety requirements for all Pet operations. Set standards and introduce new technology in the electrical and controls field within the Pet operations. 

Essential Position Responsibilities – This is a Salary Exempt position. 

Maintenance and development of electrical control systems and plant automation. Participates in the determination of specifications for new installations and performs as a key member on project installation teams. Maintain standards for plant automation, ensuring consistency across all facilities. Support all Pet ongoing operations and maintenance troubleshooting requirements. Participates and supports in the Overall Equipment Effectiveness  Program (OEE), provides training for new and developing controls technicians. 

Maintain safety of electrical systems and plant automation: Participation in the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) 70E safety requirement. Maintains compliance with regulatory authority for all electric systems.  

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy  possible within the larger organization. 

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems – including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Travel: Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities or work-sites, possibly requiring overnight stays. 

Technical Experience: 10 Years experience in electrical systems and plant automation environment. 

Industry Experience: Preference for pet food or food processing organization. 

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent or 4 years related work experience.  

Preferred Education: Electrician License

Mill Delivery Driver (2nd Shift) — Elkader, IA

Primary Objective: To provide efficient and timely delivery of bulk feed and assist with other mill operations.

Major Accountabilities:

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Standard hours 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM. In season (Spring and Fall): 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Report to assigned workplace at time specified; report late arrivals or absences to supervisor prior to start time.
  • Delivery of bulk and bagged feed products to customers.
  • Assist with other mill operations including feed mill operation, housekeeping, bulk feed deliveries, scheduling bulk deliveries, record keeping, and bagged feed pick-up and deliveries.
  • Feed mill and mill fleet maintenance including planning and scheduling maintenance, maintenance records, and performing equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in the implementation of feed mill processes and quality control measures.
  • Maintain required licenses, physicals, etc. necessary to perform job requirements.
  • Occasional custom applicating of crop nutrient products as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Paint Line Utility – 2nd Shift

Job Summary:

The Paint Line Utility is responsible for preparing, hanging, removing, and packaging parts on the powder coating line in accordance with company and customer specifications. This role requires adherence to safety standards, and attention to detail to ensure quality output.

Hours: 3pm – 1:15am, Monday through Thursday (overtime hours as needed)

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and hang parts on the powder coating conveyor line to ensure efficient production
  • Remove parts from the line and package them to accurately according to customer specifications
  • Inspect parts for quality and adherence to specifications
  • Wear and utilize protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection and respiratory gear as needed for specific tasks
  • Maintain 5S in the floor area around the equipment, ensuring a safe and organized workplace
  • Additional duties as assigned
