This is a PRN/as needed position that will primarily treat pediatric patients at our outpatient clinic in Dubuque, IA.

Occupational Therapy Assistant Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Implements and follows through with treatment plan established by Occupational Therapist.
• Informs Occupational Therapist of changes in patient’ condition.
• Is responsible for tracking and following state regulations and guidelines for therapist contact with patients and supervision requirements with the Occupational Therapist as directed in the policies and procedures.
• Makes recommendations to Occupational Therapist for adjusting treatment plan as needed to progress patient or discontinue services.
• Performs necessary documentation including progress notes, discharge notes and logs in a timely manner according to regulations.
• Maintains positive relationships with the health care team, patient and family.
• Other duties may be assigned

Education and/or Experience

• Associates degree (A.A.), of OTA

Hours of Operation

• Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm and Friday 8am-1pm

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

• Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients with feeding delays or difficulties. Feeding delays and difficulties may include but are not limited to a child’ ability to suck, chew, swallow, refusal to eat, aversions to food, or limited intake
• Provide therapy to help patients achieve feeding goals
• Conduct screening and assessment activities with children with feeding difficulties
• Evaluates patient and determines treatment plan using approved evaluation documents
• Prepares necessary documentation including evaluations, progress notes, discharge notes and logs in timely manner according to regulations.
• Collaborates with other members of the rehabilitation team.
• Maintains positive relationships with the health care team, patient, and family.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

• Masters or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy
• Feeding therapy experience preferred
• Current Occupational Therapy license

• The Physical Therapist evaluates and establishes plan of care and treats patients for physical rehabilitation services to restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability.
• Treats patient and supervises treatment plans needed to progress patient.
• Performs necessary documentation including evaluations, progress notes, discharge notes, and logs in a timely manner according to regulations.
• Develops and maintains positive working relationships with colleagues, patients, families, and other professionals.
• Makes conscious effort to educate the patients and family/caregivers as appropriate and will adapt education methods to improve understanding and compliance.
• Supervise the PTA’ and students in accordance with state regulations

Clinic Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30AM-7:00PM, Sat/Sun 8:30AM-4:00PM, rotating weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and visitors and obtains accurate information and signatures for office records
• Obtain signatures on all forms pertinent to the patient’s current visit from the patient or family member who has authority to sign on behalf of the patient.
• Photo-copy & scan insurance cards and driver’s licenses.
• Adhere to all confidentiality policies and procedures.
• Answers telephone calls promptly and accurately. Takes telephone messages and directs calls in an appropriate and professional manner.
• Retrieves, files photocopies or scans medical correspondence, reports and miscellaneous items, as requested.
• Collects payments, issues receipts and reconciles daily accounts receivable activity to prepare for daily deposits.
• Demonstrates initiatives to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
• Integrates and demonstrates FOCUS values and Expectations for Personal and Service Excellence to guide professional behaviors, while adhering to the policies and procedures of UPH-DM. Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.
• Open and / or closes the clinic following specific guidelines of the individual clinic.
• Refer patients who need financial assistance with their clinic/hospital bills to a Financial Advocate.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Degree or Vocational School Graduate

Experience:

• Previous medical office experience preferred
• Strong customer service skills
• Excellent computer skills and abilities
• Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures
• Strong personable skills to interact with physicians, health care team members, patients and support systems
• Effective communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Customer and patient focused
• Medical terminology/background a plus!
