JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Solid Waste Facility Supervisor and/or the Landfill Maintenance Lead, the Landfill Equipment Operator will operate one or several types of heavy construction equipment, such as, bulldozers, trash compactors, excavators, articulated haul trucks, skid loaders, motor graders, tractors, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth; perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the operation of heavy equipment while composting yard waste and food scraps, and pushing compacting and covering solid waste; monitor; and perform other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Work in this class involves performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the operation of landfill equipment and machinery; and GPS system to place fill, cover dirt and measure compaction. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written work orders from the Solid Waste Site Operations Supervisor, and/or the Landfill Maintenance Lead. Work is reviewed and evaluated by the Solid Waste Site Operations Supervisor through records, inspection of facilities and active landfilling areas, results achieved; and effectiveness of services provided.

Digital Media Intern (Temporary)

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Digital Media Intern will focus on assisting Media Services with the curation of digital content and projects that creatively tell the stories within the City of Dubuque. Assignments will vary based on need and opportunity but may include videography, photography, social media content development, editing, and motion graphics. Helping gather footage and photos that feature city related services and events will be a main responsibility of this role. Additionally, the intern will showcase the vast reach of city services by helping Media Services craft engaging content and communication tools that will be featured on city social media pages and CityChannel Dubuque, the city’s public access channel. From arts to major infrastructure projects, this role will have the opportunity to explore the many aspects of city government through a lens.
This is a 12-week summer internship opportunity.
TEAM BACKGROUND
The Digital Media Intern will serve as a highly valued member of the Media Services team and work closely with the city’s Multimedia Specialist and Video Producer.
Media Services is a branch of the City’s Communications Office and oversees the operations and production of video content, digital photography, live City Council meetings, and more. The department’s mission is to increase awareness and understanding of city services and programs and facilitate increased transparency of Dubuque city government to promote resident and stakeholder trust and satisfaction.
The goal of this internship is to support Media Services in developing engaging visual content that enhances digital productions, while gaining experience and skills in a government setting.
