As a Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech at MercyOne, you will

under limited supervision perform clerical and receptionist duties and observes the cardiac monitors within a specific nursing unit. Transcribes physician orders and performs computer activities Consistent with the Mission of MercyOne, Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care, and established policies and procedures.  

Schedule:

  • 0.9 FTE (36 hours a week)

  • 6:00am – 6:30pm

  • Weekend and holiday rotation

General Requirements:

  • Clerical skills and ability to effectively utilize written and oral communications. 

  • Demonstrate ability to understand and follow directions. 

  • Demonstrates ability to interpret cardiac rhythm and operate monitor equipment. 

  • Record and report information such as vital signs, intake and output, weight, and any behavioral changes to appropriate supervisory personnel. 

  • Maintain, assemble, and organize equipment needed for a safe secure environment. 

  • Perform additional duties as requested such as transporting patients and obtaining medications, supplies, and medical records from other departments. 

  • Demonstrate a caring practice by respecting the rights of an individual or group. 

  • Demonstrate ability to impact change within your department and with other departments. 

  • Demonstrate skills as an effective team member. 

  • Respect the confidentiality of an individual or group, unless obligated to disclose under proper authorization or legal compulsion. 

  • Maintain a safe environment of care. 

  • Communicate care effectively: both verbally and written. 

Education:

  • Must be 17 years of age. May be required to be 18 years of age in some areas. 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred All Certified Nursing Assistants are encouraged to belong to the National Nursing Aide Registry. In certain areas, participation in the registry is required  

  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter. 

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every year thereafter.

Physical Therapy Technician – Full-Time

Description

The Medical Associates Physical & Occupational Therapy department is hiring Physical Therapy Technicians to assist in a fast-paced department. Excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare!

What you will be doing:
Assist physical/occupational therapist or physical therapist assistant with treatment programs for patients which are pre-determined and assigned by the therapist or assistant. Therapy Techs have regular charting responsibilities.

Schedule: This position is full-time, 40 hours/week. Your scheduled hours could be between 6:45am and 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is a must!

Location: You will have a primary home location, but flexibility is required as you may occasionally be scheduled to fill in at other locations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Perform therapy modalities and exercise instruction for patients under the supervision of the physical/occupational therapists or physical therapist assistants. Monitor patient at regular intervals and assist patient in the safe practice of activities related to development of strength and endurance until treatment or exercise conclusion.
  • Prepare treatment area, patient and equipment for treatment. Assist with established procedures for care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Prepare, maintain, and clean up work stations, treatment areas, and gym.
  • Assist with chart filing, charge ticket processing and discharging of therapy records according to department policies and procedures. Verify insurance coverage and complete appropriate paperwork for approved therapy visits. Schedule patient appointments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Coursework in anatomy will be relevant and helpful.

Experience: From three months to one year of similar or related experience.


Physical Aspects:

Stooping – Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling – Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching – Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching – Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing – Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking – Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing – Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Lifting – Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering – Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping – Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling – Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing – Perceiving the nature of sound with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.

Vision – 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction.

Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds force constantly to move objects.
