Position Overview

The Childcare Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting children enrolled in our Medical Childcare Program. This position ensures the effective delivery of care and treatment based on each child’s Individual Care Plan, collaborating closely with the Childcare Director and Director of Nursing.


Key Responsibilities

Child Support & Development: Implement and follow Individual Care Plans to foster skill development, retention, and independence in children, including nursing, therapy, and behavioral support.

Program Area Management: Set up and maintain safe, creative spaces that promote skill development, active learning, and play.

Team Collaboration: Participate in regular communication with the care team, identifying program needs, and suggesting improvements to enhance children’s health, development, and well-being.

Family Engagement: Facilitate effective communication between families and the care team, attending meetings as required and sharing important updates.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records in the child’s electronic file, including observations, activities, meals, attendance, and medication administered.

Personal Care & Health Instruction: Support children in health routines (e.g., eating, resting, toileting), and assist with personal care needs as necessary.

Mealtime Assistance: Support children during meals by encouraging self-service and adhering to CACFP regulations.

Behavioral Support: Use positive guidance techniques to address challenging behaviors while promoting social and emotional development in accordance with each child’s needs.

Supply Management: Ensure that all necessary supplies are readily available, communicating with the Director when stock needs replenishing.

Housekeeping & Maintenance: Assist with daily housekeeping duties, including laundry, cleaning, and changing linens.

Collaboration: Support other staff with tasks as time permits, contributing to a smooth and efficient work environment.


Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in an early childhood setting is preferred.

Background Checks: Must pass a National DCI fingerprint process, child/adult abuse, and criminal background check prior to hire and every two years thereafter.

Certifications: CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, Mandatory Reporting, and Essentials Childcare Preservice Series must be completed within the first three months of employment.

Training: 10 hours of child-related training annually.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Physical tasks include standing, bending, reaching, and responding quickly to emergencies.

Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Work Ethic: Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic in meeting expectations and maintaining professionalism.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and the community.


Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, grasp, push/pull, and move about the center.

Ability to lift and move children or items up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’ or associate degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • One to two yearsΓÇÖ experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred
  • Must have current and valid Registered Nurse License from the State of Wisconsin

Job Summary

Administers nursing care to designated out-patients in a clinic setting in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and supervision of a licensed physician, physician’ assistant, and/or nurse practitioner. Performs a variety of direct patient care duties in compliance with physiciansΓÇÖ orders and appropriate protocol. Performs a variety of indirect patient care duties under the supervision of the Clinic Manager. Jail Correctional Officer

Description
Performs intermediate protective and human support service work ensuring the care and security of inmates at the county jail; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Jail Administrator, Assistant Jail Administrator, and jail sergeants or acting sergeants.

 

Job Duties
The duties of Correctional Officers will consist of, but not be limited to:

  • Processing inmates into custody of institution, searching prisoners, taking charge of personal property; providing opportunity to call attorney or relative, advising on institutional rules and regulations;
  • Operating specialized equipment;
  • Patrolling jail area periodically to ensure security and maintain order;
  • Supervising inmates during meals, exercise, work, recreation, and personal hygiene and related activities for conformance to institutional rules, regulations and procedures;
  • Serving as turnkey in admitting visitors, attorneys, police officers, and bondsmen;
  • Supervising the work of inmate workers;
  • Attending to special needs of prisoners and attempting to resolve individual problems, if possible;
  • Escorting inmates within the confines of the jail as required;
  • Preparing and maintaining detailed manual and computerized records on inmates;
  • Ensuring the care and maintenance of living quarters and recreational facilities used by inmates;
  • Performing laundry duty as assigned;
  • Arranging visits, inspecting items brought into the jail, checking incoming and outgoing mail;
  • Overseeing the serving of meals to inmates;
  • Distributing and administering medications as prescribed;
  • Maintain a clean workspace
  • Staffing the control room of the jail when needed;
  • Performing related tasks as required or directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in CPR and first aid.

 

Special Requirements:

Possession of all qualifications for this position as required by Dubuque County and the State of Iowa. Must satisfactorily complete an initial several week jail training program, an initial 40-hour jail training program within 1 year of hire at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and 20 hour annual continuing jail education and other department training as required.

Satisfactory driving record and possession of a valid Driver’s License.
